What you can and cannot do
Plain language, no fine print games. Here is the deal.
What you can do
- Transcribe as many files as you like, for free, with no account and no signup.
- Keep everything on your device. Your audio and transcript are never uploaded to us.
- Use the transcripts commercially. The text you produce is yours.
- Export speaker-labeled transcripts, raw text, and SRT and VTT subtitle files.
- Edit the transcript here before you download it.
- Generate meeting notes by copying the ready-made prompt into any AI chat you already use.
What you cannot do
- Transcribe recordings that were made without the consent required by law. Recording and consent laws vary by state and by country, and some places require every participant to agree. You are responsible for knowing and following the rules where you and the other people are located.
- Use audio you do not have the rights to.
- Use the service for anything illegal, or to harm or harass other people.
A note on privacy
On the free tool, your audio and your transcript stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded. If we later add a one-click AI notes feature, that feature would send only the transcript text (never the audio) to an AI provider to write the notes, and we would tell you that clearly at the moment you use it.
Consent laws vary
This page is general information, not legal advice. If you are unsure whether you may record or transcribe a particular conversation, check the laws that apply to you or ask a qualified lawyer.
